Steel Wheels arrived in America on August 29, 1989. Two nights later, the Rolling Stones walked onto the stage at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia and began their first U.S. tour since 1981.

More than 56,000 people were there for opening night. What followed was months of packed stadiums, enormous stage production, classic Stones songs and the unmistakable spectacle of late-’80s rock.
